Stephen Colbert welcomed journalist Sarah Koenig to his show to ask her what it was like to host Serial, the most popular podcast in history. Colbert joked that Koenig was the competition since the true-crime podcast’s first season will end on the same day as Colbert’s last show on Dec. 18.
The late-night host called Koenig his “favorite guest of all time” although he did chastise her for changing her opinion so much as she reports her investigation into high schooler Hae Min Lee‘s murder in 1999. The real question that Colbert wants answered in the serialized radio documentary has nothing to do with whether or not Adnan Syed is guilty — it involves the much talked-about MailChimp ad played at the beginning of the weekly episodes.
