Stephen Colbert spent his monologue trying to explain Donald Trump‘s tweets over the weekend.
“Trump spent the weekend attacking civil-rights icon John Lewis,” said Colbert, joking that Rep. Lewis “started it” when “he appeared on ‘The Goatee Report With Chuck Todd.’ ”
On Meet the Press, Lewis told Todd that he doesn’t see Trump as a legitimate president because he believes the Russians had a role in the election.
“Strong words. Strong … accurate words,” Colbert said of Lewis’ remark.
The Late Show host read aloud Trump’s tweet from over the weekend that was directed at Lewis, in which Trump said Lewis was “all talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!”
“Yes, well said,” concluded Colbert. “John Lewis is all talk, talk, talk. Unlike a real leader like Trump, who’s all tweet, tweet, tweet.”
“So Trump spent the Martin Luther King weekend attacking a civil-rights leader who marched and was beaten with Dr. King. What’s he going to do on Easter?” asked Colbert, showing the tweet that he imagines Trump posting on the occasion.

“Buddha, you’re fat,” Colbert added in his Trump voice, which even he had to stop to laugh at. “You’re a six at best.”
On the rumor that Trump might kick the press out of the White House for offices elsewhere, Colbert added about all of the president-elect’s latest moves: “In case you’re wondering, this is not normal.”
“So, there you have it. The free press joins the president’s enemies list. Along with intelligence agencies, civil-rights leaders, Meryl Streep and nonabsorbent hotel mattresses.”
