U.K. actor, comedian and TV personality Stephen Fry is getting hitched.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s impending nuptials may have been revealed in the very British manner of an announcement letter in The Times of London, but Fry turned to his preferred – and more 21st-century – medium: Twitter.
“Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag,” the 57-year-old tweeted Tuesday to his 8.35 million followers. “I’m very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!”

He later followed this with another tweet: “Thank you all SO much for your kind congratulations. Deeply touched xxx.”
Fry’s partner and soon-to-be husband is 27-year-old comedian and writer Elliot Spencer. The two are reported to have made a formal application to marry at a register office in Fry’s home county of Norfolk and now have a year to tie to knot.

Speaking to The Guardian, Fry’s personal assistant said that the marriage plans were now underway.
“Stephen Fry is very happy and proud to say that he has set the wheels in motion for a wedding sometime in the future, but no date has been set due to a busy work schedule,” the assistant said.
The legislation allowing same-sex marriages in England came into force in March 2014. Gay couples who were already in civil partnerships could convert this to a marriage as of Dec. 10. Among the first to do so were Elton John and David Furnish.
