Michael Scott (Steve Carell) proposed to Holly Flax (Amy Ryan) on The Office Thursday night, causing Twitter to light up with reactions.
Earlier in the episode, Holly announced she had to move back to Colorado to care for her ailing father, and tried to propose to Michael in the break room. He cut her off, and later told the cameras he didn’t want that to be “their story.”
Later, Holly tried to discuss her proposal, and Michael said, “Let’s not talk about that.” He then led her on a tour through their Dunder Mifflin office, stopping to point out where they had their first kiss, where they first had sex, where they co-ran their first meeting (all within their office).
Then he stopped in front of a doorway. When he opened it, the entire office staff was holding candles. “This is where our love faces its toughest test,” he announced. As Holly and Michael walked through the line of staffers, each of the staffers proposed to Holly, as she turned them down. Watch above.
Michael then opened another door, revealing even more candles. “This is where I fell in love with you, and this is where I am asking you to marry me,” he said, getting down on one knee.
But before he could pop the question, the fire alarm went off and the sprinklers started spraying. Still, he asked, “Holly Flax, marrying me will you be?”
Tearing up, she said, “Your be charming wife me will I.”
The entire staff rushed in clapping, and an ecstatic Michael then surprised them all: “We’re moving to Colorado. I’m leaving.”
His last episode airs next month.
