The home of an Arizona man suspected of staging cockfights was raided Monday by Maricopa County, Ariz. sheriffs and Steven Seagal, who arrived at the scene in a tank.
An attorney for the suspect believes the operation — which included dozens of SWAT members, armored vehicles and a bomb robot — was an expensive, excessive show of force made for the benefit of the A&E reality series Steven Seagal Lawman. Robert Campus told news station KPHO, “I think taxpayers should be shocked.”
Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a law enforcement figure best known for his strong stance against illegal immigrants, dismissed the suggestion that the raid was played up for TV cameras. He told Phoenix’s KNXV after the raid, “His [Seagal’s] role is he working with us just like other posse people.”
Seagal told the station, “Animal cruelty is one of my pet peeves.”
