Robyn Beck/AFP/Getty ImagesExecutive producer Steven Spielberg was the one who pushed for Megan Fox to be fired from the third Transformers movie, according to director Michael Bay.
Bay revealed more than a week before Transformers: Dark of the Moon is to be released, the Hitler comments Fox had made about him prompted Spielberg to suggest Fox no longer be a part of the project, the Daily Mail reports.
“You know the Hitler thing,” Bay reportedly told The Daily Mail. “Steven [Spielberg] said, ‘Fire her right now.’ “
Fox appeared in the first two Transformers films before she was replaced in the third, to be released in theaters June 29, by British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
Fox was originally supposed to appear in the third Transformers before she made remarks about Bay during an interview with Wonderland magazine. Fox alleged during the interview that Bay “wants to be like Hitler,” which was published in late 2009, after she was asked what her favorite and least favorite things were about working with the director.
“He’s like Napoleon and he wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation,” Fox said at the time. “He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he’s a nightmare to work for but when you get him away from set, and he’s not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he’s so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all. And it’s endearing to watch him.”
After it was revealed that she would not be returning for the third film in the Transformers franchise, the 25-year-old actress claimed she left in order to pursue other opportunities.
“Michael found this shy, inexperienced girl, plucked her out of total obscurity thus giving her the biggest shot of any young actress’ life,” a crew member wrote in a letter that was posted on Bay’s website following the Wonderland interview.
In an interview with GQ, Shia LaBeouf said of Fox’s statements: “She started s— talking our captain. Which you can’t do.”
