James Corden and the kids of Netflix hit series Stranger Things are actually old colleagues who went their separate ways when they landed their current gigs. You weren’t aware of that? Well, on Wednesday night’s (Nov. 8) The Late Late Show, Corden shared a look back at his time in a Motown cover band called The Upside Downs with the young male castmembers of the show where everyone is desperately trying to avoid the actual Upside Down.
According to the boys’ backstory, they were playing a gig when a Netflix executive asked them to audition for Stranger Things. Flash forward to after the audition, and Corden is clad in full-on Eleven garb and is the only one not to be cast on the show. Typical.

Caleb McLaughlin admitted, in the most serious tone, “That band was still the most creatively fulfilling thing I’ve ever been a part of.” Finn Wolfhard, who has his own band, Calpurnia, in real life, was the driving force behind getting the band back for another performance. “I mean, we miss it. We still miss it. So I called up the boys, and I said, ‘Let’s get the band back together for one more night,'” he added.
The boys joined Corden onstage in matching blue suits for covers of The Jackson 5, The Temptations and The Four Tops, featuring some not-so-perfectly executed choreography. Catch the entire bit, below, and be reminded of how immensely talented the cast of Stranger Things is.
