The Versus Versace Campaign Photographed by Gigi Hadid Has Arrived [Instagram]
In case you hadn’t heard, Gigi Hadid is a photographer now — and her first campaign for a major fashion brand just dropped. The supermodel-turned-shutterbug photographed her boyfriend, pop star Zayn Malik, as well as model Adwoah Aboah for Versus Versace’s #VersaceUncensored collection, which Malik also had a hand in designing. The images see the trio in their natural habitat — that is, lounging around a hotel room and occasionally picking up the furniture.
Crocs Closing 158 Stores [Footwear News]
It looks like those $400 high-fashion Christopher Kane Crocs couldn’t save the beloved ugly footwear company from retail’s troubling times. Crocs is the latest company to announce store closures, revealing plans to shutter 25 percent of its outposts during the next two years and shrink its count from 558 to 400.
Adidas Profits on the Rise Thanks to Success of Originals Line [Fashionista]
Adidas is enjoying its moment in the sun after the success of its Originals line (which benefits from regular collaborations with the likes of Pharrell, Yeezy and, most recently, Alexander Wang) led to 14 percent growth in revenue in 2016 and profit that surpassed the 1 billion euro mark for the first time. The company expects to continue its upward trajectory, predicting double-digit annual growth for the next three years.
Birkenstock Is Launching Skin Care [Well + Good]
Birkenstock is expanding its repertoire to include a new range of skin care products dubbed “Birkenstock Natural Care.” The line includes 28 different items, from body lotions and serums to anti-aging products and peels. According to a press release, the collection uses that same cork that makes its sandals so comfy in each product, citing the lifting qualities of cork oak extract’s suberin, a component of cell walls, as its not-so-secret ingredient. The collection ranges in price from $17 to $74 and is expected to be released this fall.
Urban Outfitters CEO Blames Burst Retail Bubble for Poor Sales [Fortune]
The CEO of Urban Outfitters, Richard Hayne, blamed the retail bubble for the store’s flat sales performance in the fourth quarter. Hayne claims that the market is over-crowded thanks to rapid store openings in the ‘90s and early 2000s, creating an environment which he likened to the housing industry back before the bubble burst in 2008. “We are seeing the results — doors shuttering and rents retreating,” he said. “This trend will continue for the foreseeable future and may even accelerate.”
