After making a return to the fashion world with his residency at Oscar de la Renta earlier this year, John Galliano has himself a new gig. The former Dior designer – ousted in 2011 for making anti-Semitic slurs to a couple while in a bar in Paris — will be part of a masterclass series at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City. Over the weekend, senior BFA candidates received email notice of the workshop, which is entitled “SHOW ME EMOTION!” and explores “provoking the power of emotion in context of fashion practice and exploration of intuitive, perceptive manners of investigational making.” The opportunity includes a three-day intensive with Galliano, plus a final day of critique and conversation with the designer and Simon Collins, dean of the school of fashion and proclaimed Galliano fan. But the barrier to entry is high for the workshop, as student participants (with a minimum 3.0 GPA) will be selected based on pre-submissions of their work, plus multiple faculty recommendations, a short written essay or video and an accompanying visualization component. For the 20th anniversary of amfAR’s annual Cinema Against AIDS gala, this year’s charity fashion show at Cannes will feature all-gold looks that channel the glamour of Elizabeth Taylor. “I picked the gold theme because gold is extraordinary,” said Carine Roitfeld, who is organizing the catwalk with Naomi Campbell. “Since it is the 20th year of this event, I thought people should walk away with an incredible memory. For me, this is really a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor. When you think of her in Cleopatra, you have this very powerful image of gold and beauty.” Christian Dior, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy and Valentino are among the many fashion houses in participation, while jewelry will hail from Bulgari, House of Waris, Kimberly McDonald and Hoorsenbuhs. The evening also will feature a retrospective of photographs by Annie Leibovitz and a clip from the upcoming HBO documentary “The Battle of amfAR,” executive-produced by chairman Kenneth Cole, which details how Taylor and research scientist Dr. Mathilde Krim partnered in the fight against AIDS. The gala dinner’s design and decor will be provided by chairman Roberto Cavalli, and this year’s co-chairs also include Sharon Stone, Heidi Klum, Janet Jackson, Jessica Chastain, Eva Cavalli, Milla Jovovich and Harvey Weinstein. Online fashion e-tailer ASOS is in talks with the British Fashion Council to develop an initiative that caters to — and therefore courts — new designers. The company’s headquarters will be open for use by the up-and-coming creatives: workspaces, pattern-cutting facilities, access to the manufacturing base, and selling spots on ASOS, which is prepared to pay upfront for runs of the designs to get in the hands of their customers. The initiative is a smart way to fast track a designer’s career without all the discouraging logistics of starting a new business, while also putting the product in front of a proven buying audience. We say add a reality show component for a perfect blend of Lifetime’s Project Runway and NBC’s Fashion Star. [Refinery29]

Just after Sienna Miller commented that she just doesn’t have much time for fashion anymore, it seems that fashion isn’t necessarily done with her just yet. The model-turned-mother is reportedly the new face of Burberry, and along with fiance Tom Sturridge, is set to debut in the brand’s autumn/winter 2013-14 campaign. Though such reports usually surface around July, Miller is a longtime friend of designer Christopher Bailey and supported Burberry’s spring/summer 2012 show in London. [Vogue UK]
We’re guessing Justin Bieber won’t be picking up any high-fashion spokesperson deals anytime soon, since the pop singer isn’t a strong with spelling when it comes to iconic brand names. While posting a photo of himself wearing a black Chanel ski mask, Bieber put only one word in the caption: “Channel.” [HuffPost]
