Rebecca Minkoff Launches RM Superwomen Initiative [Pret-a-Reporter Inbox]
Rebecca Minkoff has launched a new female-empowerment initiative timed to this weekend’s Women’s March. Called RM Superwomen, the project is a “social space” featuring both online content and IRL events that aim to “inspire women to lead a fearless life through stories, experiences [and] conversations.” To kick off the program, Minkoff made a monetary donation to the Women’s March, and from Jan. 17 to Jan. 22, she will be releasing portraits of key figures in the movement, as well as actresses and influencers including Zosia Mamet and Gretchen Carlson. The women will also march in Rebecca Minkoff styles. The series will take the place of her New York Fashion Week show, as the designer is expecting to give birth to her third child during NYFW.
Highsnobiety Raises $8.5 Million [WWD]
Highsnobiety, which launched as a sneaker blog and has since evolved into an uber-popular men’s lifestyle brand, has secured an $8.5 million investment in a funding round led by Felix Capital. With the investment, the 13-year-old brand plans to diversify the type of content it produces, including adding an event series and exploring new brand partnerships.
L’Oreal Hires Hijab-Wearing Model for Hair Campaign [CNN]
Amena Khan has been hired as the first hijab-wearing spokesmodel for L’Oreal Paris’ new hair-care line, Elvive. “Whether or not your hair is on display doesn’t affect how much you care about it,” says the British beauty vlogger, who has more than 390K subscribers on YouTube and 573K followers on Instagram, in the ad. On Instagram, she wrote, “When I take off my scarf, I want my hair to be more radiant — don’t we all?” Winona Ryder is also an ambassador for the Elvive line.
