Summer Album Guide: Florence + The Machine, Neil Young, Hilary Duff Highlight June Releases

Along with the slew of new films hitting theaters this summer and new TV shows coming out, an extensive collection of new records will also be released within the upcoming months.

Music fans can look forward to expanding their summer playlists with these albums hitting stores this June. Check back later this month for a look at July and August album releases.

WEEK OF JUNE 1

Florence + The Machine — How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
The band’s third studio album, a long-awaited follow-up to 2011’s Ceremonials, was released June 2 in the U.K. Four singles from the album were prereleased in the months leading up to its release: “What Kind of Man,” “St Jude,” “Ship to Wreck,” and “Delilah.” Lead singer Florence Welch penned all of the tracks on the record, while Markus Dravs and Paul Epworth helped produce.

Major Lazer — Peace Is the Mission
The electronic music group, led by producer Diplo, dropped their third studio album (previous records Guns Don’t Kill People … Lazers Do and Free the Universe were released in 2009 and 2013, respectively) on June 2. The album features a wide range of artists including Ellie Goulding, DJ Snake and 2 Chainz. Pharrell Williams, M.I.A. and Rita Ora have collaborated with Major Lazer in the past.

Of Monsters and Men — Beneath the Skin
The indie band rose to prominence following the release of the lead single off of their debut album (My Head Is an Animal) titled “Little Talks” in 2011. The second studio album from the band, Beneath the Skin is slated to be released internationally on June 9. “Crystals,” the record’s first single, was released earlier in March.

FFS (Franz Ferdinand and Sparks) — FFS
Rock bands Franz Ferdinand and Sparks have joined forces to create a new supergroup, FFS. Their debut album will be released June 9, though two singles — “Johnny Delusional” and “Call Girl” — have already dropped. The album comes two years after Franz Ferdinand dropped their last record, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, in 2013 and six years after Sparks released their 22nd album in 2009.

Hilary Duff — Breathe In. Breathe Out.
Duff’s fifth studio album is scheduled to drop June 12, eight years following the release of her last album, Dignity, in 2007. The record’s most recent single, “Sparks,” was released in April, and its accompanying music video garnered attention for its promotional use of popular dating app Tinder.

Nate Ruess (of fun.) — Grand Romantic
Nate Ruess, frontman of the band fun., will be dropping his debut solo album on June 16. The album features previously released single “Nothing Without Love” and a track featuring Beck titled “What This World Is Coming To.”

MIKA — No Place in Heaven
Perhaps best known for his hit “Grace Kelly” off of his first full-length studio album Life in Cartoon Motion, MIKA is expected to drop his new record No Place in Heaven on June 15. “Talk About You,” a single off of the upcoming album, was released late April.

Tori Kelly — Unbreakable Smile
Though former YouTube artist Tori Kelly has released two EPs since 2012, Unbreakable Smile will serve as her debut studio album when it drops on June 23. The album will feature lead single “Nobody Love” and collaborative tracks with Ed Sheeran and LL Cool J.

Richard Thompson — Still
For his latest release, legendary singer-songwriter-guitarist Richard Thompson wanted something different. So he approached Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy to produce. They recorded Still, Thompson’s 16th studio effort, in Tweedy’s Loft Studios in Chicago.

Three years following 2012’s Kaleidoscope Dream, Grammy-winning artist Miguel will drop his third studio album, Wildheart, on June 30. The album will feature a reworked version of his single “Coffee,” previously released from his EP nwa.hollywooddreams.coffee.

Neil Young + Promise of the Real — The Monsanto Years
Rock veteran Neil Young will team with Promise of the Real (bandmembers include Willie Nelson‘s sons Lukas and Micah) for a collaborative album set to include nine new tracks and drop June 29. The upcoming record stands as Young’s 36th studio album.
