COLOGNE, Germany – Far away from Park City, the Sundance spirit is spreading, as indie film specialty network AMC/Sundance continues its rapid international expansion.
A local language version of the Sundance Channel launched in Poland on Jan. 1, on IPTV service SGT S.A., following close on the heels of a Portuguese version, which bowed on Portugal’s top pay TV platform ZON Multimedia.
“These new distribution partnerships reflect the strong appetite for high quality, globally renowned entertainment from audiences and content distributors alike,” said Bruce Tuchman, president of AMC/Sundance Channel Global.
Among Sundance’s many new carriage deals include ones in France, where Virgin plans to add the network to its Virgin Box; Belgium, where the Sundance Channel is now available on country’s leading IPTV service, Belgacom TV; and Taiwan, where it will go out on local provider Veetime.
“It has long been a hope of mine that audiences internationally could experience the creativity and great filmmaking that comes out of Sundance,” said Sundance Channel founder Robert Redford in a statement. “Our programming is designed to be inspiring and broaden people’s perspectives and I’m looking forward to the channel’s continued international growth over the coming year.”
