Laggies Still Keira Knightley - H 2014
Barbara Kinney/Laggies Pictures LLCPARK CITY — Distributor A24 has acquired domestic distribution rights to Lynn Shelton‘s Laggies, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, which stars Chloe Grace Moretz and Keira Knightley, has been one of the Sundance Film Festival’s most high-profile pics. Sources peg the purchase price at around $2 million for North American rights, which will include a theatrical release.
This is the sixth feature from writer-director Shelton after 2012’s Your Sister’s Sister, which premiered at the 2012 festival, and Touchy Feely, which premiered at last year’s fest. Laggies is written by Andrea Seigel, and also stars Sam Rockwell, Ellie Kemper, Jeff Garlin and Mark Webber.
The film was produced by Anonymous Content and The Solution Entertainment Group, in association with Merced Media Partners, Palmstar Media Capital and Penlife Media.
Laggies, produced by Alix Madigan-Yorkin, Steve Golin, Rosalie Swedlin, Myles Nestel, Kevin Frakes and Raj Singh, premiered at Eccles Theatre on Jan. 17 as part of Sundance’s Premieres category.
Paul Green, Jennifer Roth, Lisa Wilson, Shawn Simpson, Gordon Bijelonic, Craig Chapman, Vishal Rungta and Ankur Rungta exec produced.
Anne Hathaway famously dropped out of Laggies, leaving the project in jeopardy. But Knightley took over and has received positive reviews for her performance. THR‘s critic John DeFore called Knightley’s 28-year-old slacker “convincingly desperate for anything that might point in a promising direction.”
UTA and CAA repped the filmmakers. The Solution is handling international territories.
