AMC Networks International’s Sundance Channel Global is expanding in Latin America.
The independent film channel unveiled its launch in six new territories in the region on Monday.
AMC Networks, which is also the home of IFC and flagship network AMC (The Walking Dead, Mad Men), said it has reached carriage agreements for the Sundance Channel in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Paraguay. The deals will give the network its first-ever presence in the countries.
The Sundance Channel has also reached additional distribution agreements in markets where it has been available before, in Colombia, Peru and the Dominican Republic.
The network offers first-run original drama series, including Rectify, and award-winning and locally appealing independent films. In the U.S., it was founded by Robert Redford to celebrate creativity.
In Latin America, the network is also available in Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela. The Sundance Channel first launched in Latin America last year.
“We’re looking forward to offering our distinctive mix of first-run original drama and independent films that audiences cannot see elsewhere,” said Ed Palluth, executive vp global distribution, AMC Networks International. “Further expansion across all of Latin America is a major priority for us in the months ahead.”
Among the various deals, Sundance will launch on Cable Onda, Panama’s largest pay TV platform, and on Claro, the biggest pay TV operator in Colombia and the Dominican Republic.
In the U.S., Sundance recently changed its name to Sundance TV.
