Sundance Film Festival 2018: Guide to Events, Parties and More

Hollywood is taking over Park City’s Main Street for the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, which is set to run Thursday-Jan. 28. Here’s a guide to the must-visit spots — from panel discussions and eco-lounges to A-list parties and VIP gifting suites — at this year’s fest.

Thursday, Jan. 18

Sundance: Day One Press Conference
Egyptian Theatre, 328 Main St., 1 p.m.
Sundance Institute founder and president Robert Redford, Sundance Institute executive director Keri Putnam and Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper take stage in front of members of the media to discuss the 2018 event and other fest initiatives. Barbara Chai, MarketWatch entertainment editor and head of arts and clture coverage for Dow Jones Media Group will moderate.

Lyft Lounge
509 Main St., daily 8 a.m.-7 p.m. through Jan. 28
For the first time, Lyft is participating in the Sundance Film Festival as the official ride share partner. This year’s space will feature hot beverages and conversation with cinema enthusiasts and creatives.

Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures and Freestyle Digital Media Hospitality Penthouse Lounge with Extra

Hearts Beat Loud

The Grey Goose-sponsored venue hosts after party for the film’s stars and guests. Expected to attend are Nick Offerman, Sasha Lane, Kiersey Clemons, Blythe Danner and Ted Danson.

Friday, Jan. 19

DIRECTV Lodge
Heber & Main, 660 Main St., daily
The DIRECTV lodge, in partnership with AT&T, will take over Heber & Main for four days of pop-up dining experiences — from L.A.’s star-loved Craig’s restaurant, plus premiere parties and cast dinners, including a luncheon for Lizzie with Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart. Looking for a place to watch the NFL games leading up to the Super Bowl? Duck in for Wi-Fi with a side of hot chocolate during non-private-event hours.

TAO Park City
The Yard, 1251 Kearns Blvd., nightly through Jan. 21
TAO Group returns for a tenth time with a three-day pop-up with DJ sets by Mel DeBarge, the Deux Twins, Vice and DJ Politik, along with a surprise performance Saturday night. Also back: Tequila Don Julio will be serving up Don Julio 1942 for a third year in a row. New partner: Tinder which will activate a heated outdoor lounge.

Hap and Leonard-themed Escape the Set (Escape Room Experience)

The description is so good, best to leave it to the organizers: “It’s 1989 and you’ve run out of gas in Grovetown, Texas, the same place that has mysteriously swallowed up your friends Hap and Leonard while on a mission to rescue their friend Florida Grange. Can you find clues to their whereabouts and get out in time to help? Or will you vanish in Grovetown, too?”

The IMDb Studio & Private Celebrity Lounge
570 Main St., daily through Jan. 22
IMDb’s invitation-only video and photo studio, and celebrity lounge will be back for a fourth year in a row. Upstairs on the two-floor venue, filmmaker Kevin Smith will host on-camera interviews with actors, writers and directors. Downstairs, stars and industry VIPs can chill in IMDb’s private lounge featuring gifting and beverages.

Canon Creative Studio
592 Main Street, Park City, UT, daily, 11 a.m.-7p.m., until Jan. 22
Canon will host guests for 4 days of interactive displays of Canon camera equipment, live panel discussions, and a relaxing lounge stocked with coffee and snacks. At the IMDbPro portrait studio, a pop-up within the Canon lounge, guests can also take the moment to instantly upload their newly-taken headshots to their Pro profiles. Invite only.

Music Lodge Hosts Associated Press Festival Headquarters
Music Lodge, 738 Main St., in the Courtyard, daily, Jan 19-22, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Back for a 14th year — and 11th year with the AP — as a stop for stars and talent to take in the four-day hospitality suite. Outdoor sports brand Spyder will host a hot chocolate bar while keeping talent stylish on the slopes with gifted Spyder ski apparel. JetSuiteX, a semi-private California-based airline, will have an on-site check-in counter where they’ll be printing ticket vouchers good for Burbank, San Jose, Oakland, Las Vegas and Mammoth. Jetsmarter Presents The Music in Film Summit Presented by Juul at Park City Live

The legendary music venue will debut Jetsmarter Presents The Music in Film Summit Presented by Juul at Park City Live, a one-stop shop for filmmakers, actors, actresses, and key influencers to promote their films and projects to top tier media and industry insiders. Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood will join the cast and executives of their film Mandy for a panel discussion. Black Eyed Peas members will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo along with KRS-One, Rakim will lead a fireside chat about their virtual reality app, Masters of the Sun. Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons will take the stage with director Don Argott and famed producer Heather Perry for their film Believer. Panels will also feature a Women & The Power of Change Conversation, directly after the Respect Women’s March on Main along with the cast and crew of the Joan Jett documentary, Bad Reputation. One year after a local event as part of the National Women’s March, activists and festival participants will gather to “celebrate all of the victories our fellow marchers have fought for in their communities in 2017 and to continue the spirit of activism that has been awakened nationwide since last year’s march,” per the event’s official page. Information about speakers has yet to be announced.
