IFC Films has picked up North American rights to Jim Mickle’s Cold in July, a neo-noir thriller starring Michael C. Hall, Don Johnson and Sam Shepard. The distributor plans to release the film, which premiered in the U.S. dramatic competition, theatrically and on VOD this summer.
Written by Mickle and Nick Damici, the film stars Hall as a man who kills a burglar who breaks into his Texas home only to find that the man’s father, an ex-con played by Shepherd, is determined to have revenge. It also stars Vinessa Shaw, Damici and Wyatt Russell.
July was produced by Linda Moran, Rene Bastian of Belladonna Productions, Marie Savare de Laitre and Adam Folk, and executive produced by Jean-Baptiste Babin, Emilie Georges, Manuel Chiche, David Atlan-Jackson and Joel Thibout.

The deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, SVP acquisitions and productions, Sundance Selects/IFC Films and WME Global on behalf of the filmmakers.
