Sundance Selects Picks Up Documentary ‘Dancing in Jaffa’

Sundance Selects has acquired North American rights Hilla Medalia’s documentary Dancing in Jaffa, which follows ballroom dancer Pierre Dulaine as he returns to his hometown in Jaffa, Israel, bringing his Dancing Classrooms program to five different schools.

The film was produced by Diane Nabatoff, Neta Zwebner-Zaibert and Medalia and co-produced by Keshet Broadcasting LTD. Executive producers are Morgan Spurlock and Jeremy Chilnick, La Toya Jackson, Jeffré Phillips and Nigel Lythgoe. Dan Setton, J. Arnhold, Robert Machinist and Jonathan Shukat also executive produced. The film was co-executive produced by Sydney Holland.

Jaffa had its world premiere at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival.

“Hilla Medalia has created a moving film that highlights the power of dance to unite even the most divided of worlds. We expect this film to be talked about well beyond the dance community since it has such a powerful global message.” Jonathan Sehring, president of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said.

The deal was negotiated by Jeff Deutchman, director of acquisitions and productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films, with Preferred Content and UTA Independent Film Group repping the filmmakers. K5 is handling international sales.

Sundance Selects is a sister division to IFC Films and IFC Midnight, and is owned and operated by AMC Networks Inc.
