“What is Scientology?”
That phrase is typed into a Google search during a coveted Super Bowl LII ad spot, which leads into a slideshow of clips featuring its headquarters along with interested passersby, pieces of advanced technology and other words and symbols that relate to their beliefs. An audio backdrop includes voices of those questioning the religion, furthering the theme of “curiosity.”
“Curious?” the screen asks. “We thought so.” It closes with a link to scientology.org, encouraging those who aren’t in the know to do more research on the topic.
The Church of Scientology’s Super Bowl ad tradition began in 2013.
