The Quick Pitch: Chef Jason Neroni, most recently of Osteria La Buca (where he drew a following from those on the Paramount Pictures lot just down the road), has taken his Italian act to Venice at this high-style temple to light, casual-cool dining centered on handmade pastas. Think agnolotti with pig cheeks or casarecce with crispy sardines, served in a super-SoCal modernist indoor-outdoor space defined by aqua-colored pool tiles and banquettes upholstered with the sort of ponchos that Dogtown skateboarders like to wear.

The Insider’s Dish: Earlier in his career, owner Paul Hibler — who is also behind the popular Pitfire Pizza chainlet — ran an on-set catering company, which took care of craft services for 300 films, including Walk the Line, Catch Me if You Can and Men in Black. His firm also handled private events for Ron Burkle, Norman Lear and Barbra Streisand.
The Must-Order Item: An appetizer of chorizo-and-ricotta meatballs with pickled jalapeno salsa verde.
