The supermodel is definitely making a comeback, with many major fashion publications recently featuring models — instead of A-list actresses — as cover stars, from Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls on Vogue‘s September issue and Miranda Kerr on Lucky‘s June/July issue to Kate Upton on V Magazine‘s February cover, to name a few. Now, two of the biggest faces of the ’90s — Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington — are this month’s cover stars for Violet Grey and Porter Magazine, respectively.
Crawford — who poses in a badass Tom Ford tux in one photo spread — chats with Violet Grey about getting microdermabrasion facials for over a decade (well, that explains her flawless glow all the time) and how MTV’s House of Style was her form of social media.
“I was lucky because House of Style was like my Twitter. I got to be more than just a picture. Because of social media, so many of the girls today, like Coco Rocha, Lily Aldridge, Georgia May Jagger and Cara Delevingne, are brand-building,” says the former host of MTV’s hit ’90s style show, which was recently revived by the network with new host Iggy Azalea.
Turlington, Porter Magazine‘s leading lady, looks fresh-faced donning a denim shirt on one of her covers for Net-a-Porter‘s glossy, and then goes for a bold yellow printed dress and colorful jewels on the other cover shot. In an accompanying video for the shoot, the 45-year-old beauty explains why she enjoys being in her 40s: “There are no negatives about getting older honestly, the older I get the more comfortable in my skin I am — it’s much more me.” Amen to that.
Both look stunning, but which ’90s fashion queen do you think won this fashion face-off? Do tell.
