Suzanne Collins, author of the blockbuster Hunger Games trilogy, will release her latest literary project — an autobiographical picture book called Year of the Jungle — on Sept. 10, 2013, it was announced Thursday.
Publisher Scholastic will also publish the trade paperback edition of Collins’ Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire on June 4 and also next summer, new paperback editions of her best-selling The Underland Chronicles, complete with new cover art.
Year of the Jungle, with illustrations by James Proimos, is based on the year the author’s father served in Vietnam and features a young girl, Suzy, and her struggle with his absence; the book is for ages 4 and up.
“The Underland Chronicles, with its fantasy world and eleven-year old protagonist, Gregor, was designed for middle readers,” Collins, one of THR‘s 25 Most Powerful Authors, said in a statement. “The Hunger Games Trilogy features a teen narrator, Katniss Everdeen, and a stark dystopian backdrop for the YA audience. Year of the Jungle attempts to reach the picture book readers by delving into my own experience as a first grader with a father deployed in Viet Nam.”
The movie adaptation of The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, opened in March 2013 to big box office success, amassing more than $700 million in ticket sales worldwide. The follow-up, Catching Fire, arrives Nov. 22, 2013.
