The South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival has announced the first round of panels and workshops, as well as featured conversations with Jake Gyllenhaal and producer Sarah Green.
Gyllenhaal most recently appeared in Baltasar Kormakur‘s Everest, Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw and Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler, a role which garnered him a Golden Globe and SAG nomination. This April, he’ll also be seen in Jean-Marc Vallee‘s Demolition, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Green is an independent film producer who has worked with directors like Jeff Nichols and Terrence Malick on a wide range of films, including Tree of Life, Midnight Special and Frida.
Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail will take part in the panel “Coding on Camera: Mr. Robot & Authenticity on TV” with the show’s stars, Rami Malek and Christian Slater. The USA show had its world premiere in the Episodic section of the 2015 SXSW Film Festival.
Scandal’s Kerry Washington will be on hand to discuss the rise and repercussions of social stardom, and online entertainer Zach Anner will host the panel “The Art of Starting From Nothing,” with a variety of Internet phenoms and independent artists sharing how they make and market online content.
The film conference will feature more than 200 keynotes, conversations, panels and workshops, which are co-curated by SXSW Music, Film and Interactive.
“The SXSW Film Conference is designed to give creatives the tools they need to achieve their goals,” said the head of SXSW film conference and festival Janet Pierson. “There is nowhere else where talent from so many fields come together and generate that special SXSW creative combustion.”
Last year’s festival and conference participants included Mark Duplass, Ava DuVernay, Amy Schumer and Ryan Gosling, among others.
The SXSW 2016 runs from March 11 to 20 in Austin, TX.
