As news spread in Austin early Thursday about the car accident near a SXSW venue that killed two and injured 23 more, some of the top music acts in town took to Twitter to lament the incident and wish for their fans’ safety.
Tyler the Creator of alternative hip-hop collective Odd Future was scheduled to play the Mohawk Outdoor venue adjacent to where the accident occurred. His gig was supposed to kick off at 1 a.m., but he later tweeted: “Show Isnt Happening, Something Sad Happened. I’m Bummed.”

Lady Gaga, who was spotted in the crowd at a Semi Precious Weapons show at Rusty’s on 7th Street just after midnight, later sent out: “All my love to music lovers and fans, stay safe tonight we love you.”
And singer-songwriter St. Vincent, who performed at Stubb’s earlier in the night, posted: “Just heard about the accident at 10th and Red River at SXSW. My heart goes out to everyone injured/involved.”
At approximately 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning, a car crashed through a barricade set up at Red River St. and 10th St. in downtown Austin, skidding into a crowd near the Mohawk Bar. Two were pronounced dead on the scene and 23 others were taken to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to critical.
The driver was transported from the scene and “is currently in custody,” a spokesperson for the Austin Police Department told The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard.
