SXSW: Wes Anderson’s ‘Isle of Dogs’ to Close Festival

The North American premiere of Wes Anderson’s stop-motion animation film Isle of Dogs will close this year’s SXSW fest in Austin, Texas.

The pic joins an already announced lineup that includes the world premiere of the horror thriller A Quiet Place starring Emily Blunt.

The fest on Wednesday also unveiled its Midnighters section, which will include Hereditary, starring Toni Collette; an untitled Blumhouse/Bazelevs film; and the anthology Field Guide to Evil.

The festival’s extensive shorts program — live-action, documentary and animation — was also announced, as well as the event’s VR schedule. And Sundance standouts Sorry to Bother You and Blindspotting have been added to the Festival Favorites section.

As previously announced, this year’s speakers series will include Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, Girls creator Lena Dunham, actor-director Ethan Hawke and filmmaker Spike Lee.  

The 25th edition of SXSW is set to run March 9-18. Additional titles are still to be announced, but the current lineup can be found here.
