Ted Koppel Tells Sean Hannity He is “Bad for America”

Veteran journalist and former Nightline anchor Ted Koppel appeared on CBS’ Sunday Morning where he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that his show is “bad for America.” The discussion occurred after a segment aired on the show about political polarization of the country and “alternate universes” Americans are living in where TV pundits such as Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, John Oliver and Stephen Colbert may be contributing to blurring the lines between opinions and facts and are “driving the country further and further apart.”

“We have to give some credit to the American people that they’re somewhat intelligent and that they know the difference between an opinion show and a news show,” said Hannity, who then told Koppel “You’re cynical.”

“Do you think we’re bad for America? You think I’m bad for America? You do? Really?” Hannity asked Koppel, to which he replied, “Yeah. In the long haul, I think you and all these opinion shows.”

Hannity replied, saying “that’s sad” to which Koppel said, “No, you know why? Because you are very good at what you do, and because you have attracted a significantly more influential … you have attracted people who are determined that ideology is more important than facts.”

Hannity later addressed the interview on Twitter, claiming that CBS edited the original 45-minute interview down to a few minutes. He tweeted on Sunday, “Fake Edited News” @CBSNews release the Unedited 45 minute interview so people can see the BS games you play in the edit room. I dare you!”
