Miley Cyrus was set to receive the Ultimate Choice Award at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night, but within minutes of the show airing live, presenter Victoria Justice announced that the pop star would not be able to make it to accept the show’s highest honor.
More than halfway into the show, Cyrus took to her Instagram to announce that her absence is due to the “unrealistic schedule” she has made for herself and went on to apologize to her fans, who were pining to see her accept the surfboard trophy live.

The singer also announced her new single “Younger Now,” from her album of the same name, and that it would drop on Aug. 18.
The award is a nod to Cyrus’ involvement in the kids-voted show for more than a decade. Cyrus is a proud owner of 18 TCA awards and is one of six artists in Teen Choice history to receive the Ultimate Choice Award.
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Cyrus’ rep for more details about her last-minute absence from the show.
