PARIS – French TV network TF1 monopolized the Gallic small screen once again with 99 of the top 100 ratings scores in France in 2011 according to figures from audience measurement service Mediametrie.
The ratings are the best the private network has seen since 2007 when they boasted 100 percent of the top 100 ratings for that year.
A France-New Zealand rugby match attracted 15.4 million viewers last year, placing it on top of the list with an 82.3 percent audience share for the time slot, followed by variety show Les Enfoires with 12.5 million viewers and a 49.7 percent share. 12.5 million French TV viewers all tuned in for the 8 p.m. news with Claire Chazal on Sept.18 when she interviewed Dominique Strauss-Kahn, giving the network a 44.4 percent market share and the third best ratings of the year.
U.S. series continued to dominate the ratings including the Mentalist, House and CSI: Miami.
Only public network France 2 was able to make an appearance in the top 100 with an episode of Rendez-vous en terre inconnue featuring rugby player Frederic Michalak on Nov. 1, which attracted 8 million viewers.
