The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s The Post dropped on Tuesday.
At a time when journalism is under attack from accusations of “fake news,” the timely movie tells the story of the Washington Post’s first female publisher Kay Graham (Meryl Streep) and its editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks) attempts to publish the Pentagon Papers, a political cover-up about the Vietnam War that spanned three decades and four U.S. presidents.
The period film has an all-star cast headed by Oscar winners Hanks and Streep, in their first film together, and also includes Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford and Zach Woods.
The script was written by Liz Hannah and Josh Singer.
The Post will be released in select theaters on Dec. 22 and go on general release on Jan. 12.
