Atlanta police on Friday announced a suspect had been arrested in connection to the Thomas Jefferson Byrd homicide case.
Antonio Demetrice Rhynes, 30, of Atlanta, was taken into custody Friday morning on suspicion of fatally shooting the actor, who appeared in such Spike Lee films Clockers, He Got Game and Red Hook Summer. Police said tips and evidence led them to Rhynes.
Once processed the suspect will be taken to the Fulton County Jail, police said.
The 70-year-old Byrd was shot and killed Oct. 3. A motive for the killing remains unclear.
Lee created a GoFundMe page to help Byrd’s children, which so far has raised more than $100,000. “May we all wish condolences and blessings to his family. Rest in peace Brother Byrd,” Lee said on social media when he learned of Byrd’s death.
