Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has been cast in Jay Roach’s Trumbo, the story based on the life of blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.
The actor has also booked a role on the upcoming fifth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Details of the role are being kept under wraps but is said to be a character not in the books with the name “Malko.”
Bryan Cranston is starring as the screenwriter who wrote Roman Holiday and Spartacus, and continued writing under pseudonyms after he was blacklisted for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947. The film also stars Helen Mirren, Diane Lane, John Goodman, Peter Mackenzie and Roger Bart.
ShivHans Pictures’ Shivani Rawat, Nimitt Mankad, and Monica Levinson and Groundswell Productions’ Michael London and Janice Williams are producing along with Kevin Brown and writer John McNamara.
The movie has U.S. distribution via Bleecker Street, the new indie distribution company launched by former Focus Features co-CEO Andrew Karpen.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje will play Virgil Brooks, a powerful and severe man who works at the Ashland Federal Prison and is assigned to Trumbo’s daily tasks.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje is known for his memorable roles as Mr. Eko on hit series Lost and Simon Adebisi on Oz. He most recently appeared in Pompeii and Thor: The Dark World.. His upcoming films include Annie, starring Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhane Wallis, which opens this holiday season. He’ll also appear on NBC’s upcoming drama Odyssey.
