The Hollywood Reporter‘s chief film critic Todd McCarthy has picked his favorite and least favorite films from the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
For his top three, McCarthy pegged Romanian director Cristian Mungiu’s (and past Palme d’Or winner for 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) film Graduation as his favorite, followed by German helmer Maren Ade’s Toni Erdmann. The only American movie McCarthy chose was Jeff Nichols’ Loving, which is sure to be pushed during awards season.
McCarthy disliked most of the other films, most notably Andrea Arnold’s American Honey, starring Shia LaBeouf, and Steven Spielberg’s The BFG.
