Time Warner Cable CEO Glenn Britt told employees he has cancer that has affected his voice.
“I have had an ongoing issue with my voice since midsummer and have been undergoing tests to determine the cause. A few weeks ago, the doctors determined that I have cancer,” he wrote in an e-mail to staffers.
Time Warner Cable said in July that Britt’s tenure as CEO would conclude at year’s end and he’d be replaced by COO Rob Marcus.

“Some of you may not know that I am a cancer survivor; I had a bout with melanoma five years ago and at that time, received a clean bill of health,” Britt wrote in his e-mail. “Unfortunately, as is the case with many cancer patients, the cancer has returned.”
Britt has been CEO since 2001 and he became chairman of the board in 2009. His time as CEO has been marked by efforts to slow down a rise in programming costs, a pursuit that led to a bitter standoff recently with CBS.
“I am thankful that the transition to Rob was planned early, and was well underway before I got sick,” Britt said in his e-mail. “The transition has been seamless so far and is nearly complete.”
