Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE via Getty ImagesNEW YORK – Time Warner Cable and Madison Square Garden’s cable network MSG have put aside a long-running standoff to reach a new carriage deal.
A TWC spokesman confirmed the deal, but financial and other details of the new agreement weren’t immediately clear.
MSG went dark in TWC households in the New York area as of the end of last year, but the winning streak of Madison Square Garden’s New York Knicks NBA franchise, led by point guard Jeremy Lin, helped bring the two parties back to the negotiating table after seven weeks.
UPDATE: Following initial reports of the deal, TWC released a statement detailing the outcome of the verbal agreement and some insight into the talks with MSG.
“Time Warner Cable has reached a verbal agreement for carriage of MSG, MSG+ and Fuse, effective immediately,” reads the statement. “MSG will return to Time Warner Cable’s lineup in time for tonight’s Knicks, Sabres and Devils games. Time Warner Cable expressed appreciation for the concern and encouragement provided by Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and NBA Commissioner David Stern.
