From the network that brought viewers such controversial characters as Kate Gosselin and the cast of Sister Wives comes a docu-series about former baseball bad boy Pete Rose and his fiancee, Kiana Kim.
Discovery-owned TLC has started production on the tentatively titled Pete Rose and Kiana Kim Family project, which will center on the couple as they blend their families together and prepare for their wedding. Rose lives in Las Vegas with Kim in Los Angeles with two kids, which leaves some members of his family skeptical that the duo can start their own family under separate roofs in two different cities.
What’s more, Kim and her family know little about his storied past, which includes a legendary career that ended with his infamous banning from the sport care of gambling troubles. With the support of Kim and her kids, his family and legions of supporters, he considers appealing with the commissioner to discuss reinstatement.
“Pete is one of sport’s most controversial characters, and his life is even more fascinating off the field as it was on,” said TLC general manager Amy Winter, adding: “This series will open the door into a very modern family dynamic of trying to blend families when your kids are no longer children, and when your private life is in the public spotlight.”
The network has ordered five episodes, which are expected to air later this year. The docu-series hails from Creature Films.
