Ann Curry landed her first big interview since becoming co-host of NBC’s Today. And her sit-down with President Obama on Monday in Durham, N.C., made news when Curry asked the president if embattled Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner should resign.

“I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign,” Obama said. “Because public service is exactly that, it’s a service to the public.”
“When you get to the point where, because of various personal distractions, you can’t serve as effectively as you need to, at a time when people are worrying about jobs and their mortgages and paying bills, then you should probably step back.”

It’s safe to say that it is the highest call yet for Weiner’s resignation since the congressman’s penchant for sending lewd Twitter messages to female followers came to light.
Obama was in North Carolina to meet with the Jobs and Competitiveness Council at the corporate and U.S. manufacturing headquarters of Cree, a leading manufacturer of energy efficient LED lighting.

Curry also discussed the economy and the 2012 presidential election with Obama.
The interview airs Tuesday on Today.
