The Miami International Film Festival, which runs from March 2-11, will open with the world premiere of Tom Gustafson’s Mariachi Gringo, starring Shawn Ashmore as a young man from Kansas who falls in love with the mariachi lifestyle.
The 10-day event, which will showcase more than 100 films from 35 countries, will screen the U.S. premiere of Sebastian Borensztein’s Chinese Take-Away as its awards night film.
The fest will include a tribute to actor Robert Loggia prior to its screening of Sean Ackerman’s The Diary of Preston Plummer.
It will also introduce several new film sections, including: 4 World Directors to Watch; Spotlight on Quebec Cinema; Films for Youth; Cuba3; Mayhem; and Miami Mavericks.
