A Hologram for the King, a comedic drama starring Tom Hanks, has rounded out the cast with Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Omar Elba (Intelligence), Tracey Fairaway (Enough Said), David Menkin (Zero Dark Thirty) and Tom Skerritt (Ted, Top Gun). The film, directed by Tom Tykwer, begins shooting in Morocco Thursday.
Set in an up-and-coming Saudi Arabian city, the film follows American businessman Alan Clay’s (Hanks) last-ditch effort to stave off bankruptcy, pay his daughter’s college fees, and finally accomplish something big.
Shooting will take place in Morocco and Germany through June.

The film, adapted by Tykwer from a novel by Dave Eggers, is produced by Uwe Schott and Stefan Arndt of X Filme Creative Pool; Arcadiy Golubovich and Timothy D. O’Hair of Primeridian; and Hanks and Gary Goetzman of Playtone; in association with Silver Reel Entertainment, and Fabrica de Cine. Eggers, Steven Shareshian of Playtone, Claudia Bluemhuber of Silver Reel, Gaston Pavlovich of Fabrica de Cine, and Bill Johnson and Jim Seibel of Lotus International will executive produce.
A Hologram for the King reunites Hanks, Tykwer, Schott, and Arndt after working together on Cloud Atlas, which has grossed over $130 million globally.
Lotus introduced the picture at AFM in November and is handling international sales. CAA is representing the domestic rights.
Choudhury plays Mira Berenson on Showtime’s Homeland. She’s repped by Don Buchwald & Associates and Washington Square Films.
Elba and Fairaway are repped by Innovative Artists; Menkin by The American Agency; and Skerritt by Resolution.
