Before Sherak passed away on Jan. 28, he was named the 2014 Pioneer of the Year, the foundation’s highest tribute. Past industry icons who have received the award include Sumner Redstone, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Alan Horn, Michael Eisner, Sherry Lansing, Jack Valenti, Jack Warner, Darryl Zanuck and Cecil B. DeMille.

The Pioneer dinner will be held March 26 in Las Vegas, where Hollywood and theater owners will already be gathered together for CinemaCon, the annual convention of exhibitors.
A schedule of the Pioneer dinner hasn’t yet been released, but the event is sure to draw plenty industry luminaries, considering Sherak’s legacy. The former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was a longtime studio executive and a fierce humanitarian. He began his career as a film buyer, so also has strong ties to the exhibition community.
