Tomas Jegeus has been named president of Fox International Productions.
The move fills a major vacancy at the studio that was created when Sanford Panitch left the position in April for a top post across town at Sony.
Jegeus, who currently serves alongside Paul Hanneman as co-president of worldwide theatrical marketing and distribution for 20th Century Fox, will move into his new position on Sept. 1.
Launched in 2008, Fox International Productions produces and acquires local-language films for key global territories and complements the studio’s worldwide releases with films sourced through partnerships with producers, filmmakers and strategic production and distribution agreements. During its seven years, FIP has aligned all the company’s international territory productions under one banner and has grossed $900 million at the global box office from films it produced or acquired.
Jegeus and Hanneman had overseen the international marketing and distribution teams since October 2005 before both were promoted to run worldwide marketing and distribution in 2013. Hanneman will continue to run global marketing and distribution operations for the studio.
In his new post, Jegeus will report to Fox co-chairman Stacey Snider.
“Tomas, along with Paul Hanneman, has played a key leadership role in our preeminent international marketing and distribution operation for decades, and we are thrilled that Tomas will bring his enormous talent and skill set to lead FIP to even greater success in the future,” 20th Century Fox chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos said.
Added Snider: “I am so impressed with Tomas’ combined creative instincts and keen sense of how films will appeal to local cultures, audiences and the international marketplace, and I’m so gratified that the company will continue to benefit from his expertise. We are excited to support Tomas in extending Fox’s international local productions and to making an even greater impact in this very important part of our business.”
Jegeus worked closely with FIP in his previous roles when Fox International handled all marketing and distribution for FIP film titles.
“I am honored that Jim and Stacey have given me this incredible opportunity to further build upon Fox’s success with international productions,” Jegeus said. “And I’m thrilled to be working with the incredibly talented FIP team in Los Angeles and around the world. Going forward, I’m looking forward to an even deeper involvement between FIP and the best international marketing and distribution team in the world, under the continued guidance of Paul Hanneman.”
FIP is staffed in Los Angeles with business affairs, development and production executives and draws on the expertise of Fox’s network of creative individuals in key territories around the globe. FIP will continue to work closely with Fox’s other production divisions and partners, as well as with its 21st Century Fox sister companies, Star TV and Sky, among others.
Jegeus began his career at Fox in 1990 as marketing director for the U.K. office. In 1998 he moved to Hong Kong to become vp of Fox’s Asia/Pacific marketing division. From 2002-04, he served as executive vp marketing for UIP, where he was responsible for the international marketing activity for all UIP-released products. Jegeus returned to Fox in 2004 as executive vp at 20th Century Fox International in Los Angeles, overseeing the international marketing campaigns for the entire slate of releases. He held that position until the fall of 2005, when he was promoted to co-president of the division. Through a 2013 restructuring of its marketing operations into a worldwide unit, Fox promoted Jegeus and Hanneman to run the new, consolidated activities.
