Everything That Happened at Tommy Hilfiger’s Fashion Carnival

For the runway debut of the Tommy x Gigi collection, the designer pulled out all the stops — 40 foot Ferris wheel and Taylor Swift included.

Tommy Hilfiger has really outdone himself this time. 

Looking to one-up the likes of Kanye and Tom Ford, who have showcased their collections with over-the-top events that might only be classified as “extravaganzas,” the designer is staging his very own carnival for the presentation of the Tommy x Gigi collection which he created in collaboration with 21-year-old supe Gigi Hadid.

Though much of the line has already been revealed on the World Wide Web, this evening’s carnival — held at “Tommy Pier” (more formally known as Pier 16 at South Street Seaport) — marks the nautical collection’s runway debut. Bonus: Each look will be immediately available for purchase online (pieces have their own individual links via Instagram), as well as at Tommy stores and at one of the four pop-ups housed within the carnival. Double bonus: The carnival will also be open tomorrow, Sept. 10, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., for shoppers who didn’t get the exclusive invitation for Friday’s show. 

More than 2,000 guests, half of which include industry insiders and editors, half of which are normals (a.k.a consumers), have been invited to the runway presentation at 7 p.m., but with Hadid playing Hilfiger’s co-pilot, you can bet there will be plenty of A-listers (cough, Taylor Swift, cough), too. 

The Guests
Taylor Swift and Martha Hunt revealed via Vogue’s Snapchat that they are in fact en route to the carnival, and they are very excited about it. 

And what’s a fashion show without the co-designers family? Proud mama Yolanda Foster made an appearance backstage pre-show for some interviews of her own.

Hadid’s half-sister, Alana, and her dad, Mohamed, also posted on Snapchat to reveal that they were in the crowd. 

Kris Jenner was also spotted at the fest, with beau Cory Gamble in tow. 

The Models
In addition to Hadid, Tommy Hilfiger ambassador Hailey Baldwin as well as Josephine Skriver, Taylor Hill and Imaan Hammam are hitting the catwalk.

The Carnival
Pre-runway boxing, anyone? 

Like any great carnival, Tommy’s also has both mozzarella sticks, a tattoo parlor and great carnival signage. 

Oh, and in case you thought Tommy was only famous for his work in fashion, you should know he’s famous for his fries, too.

The Merch
Though the presentation has not started, showgoers are already getting a glimpse of the Tommy x Gigi merch for sale. 

The Show
Hadid opened the show, naturally, strutting down the seemingly endless catwalk to the tune of Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s “This Is What You Came For,” which was penned by Swift. 

Center-parted, natural do’s ruled the runway, as did fringed scarves, which were paired with most of the looks. 

Other popular items included bomber jackets, drawstring hoodies and liquid leather leggings with zippered pockets. And based on the Rihanna-heavy soundtrack, you could say that RiRi was pretty popular as well.

To close out the show, models paired up and walked Tommy Pier two-by-two in matching ensembles for one final lap — an homage to the partnership between Hadid and Hilfiger, perhaps?
