Michael Kovac/Getty Images for Tommy HilfigerKnown for her quirky personality and vintage looks, Zooey Deschanel dazzled the crowd with her charming style at the celebration of her first capsule collection with Tommy Hilfiger on Wednesday night at West Hollywood’s London hotel. The New Girl actress was joined by co-stars Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone, who arrived wearing the “Hannah” dress from Deschanel’s “To Tommy From Zooey” line, as well as Once Upon a Time star Jennifer Morrison, Friends With Better Lives actor James Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly, CBGB actress Malin Akerman and DJ Mia Moretti, among many fashionable faces.

Although the launch with the iconic American brand marks Deschanel’s first foray into fashion design, she says she’s been on the sewing machine since she was a kid. Her first-ever creation? “It was a red dress made out of Christmas stocking material,” Deschanel, who wore a red-and-blue patterned frock from her range, told Pret-a-Reporter. As to whether or not she still owns the piece? “I think my parents do [own it],” she said.
During the soiree, Deschanel was spotted mingling and posing for photos with mom Mary Jo, Hilfiger and his wife, Dee, and Vanity Fair West Coast editor Krista Smith (who co-hosted the event), while guests enjoyed a selection of sweet treats: bite-size desserts, chocolate M&Ms (in red, white and blue, inspired by the collection’s color palette, natch) and large lip-shaped candies. Attendees were also welcomed to snap a few shots with the lady of the hour, thanks to a photo booth that featured a pre-photographed Deschanel posing on the screen, which printed onto every photo.

While the actress-turned-designer might be known for having a bubbly attitude as Jess on New Girl, Hilfiger said she’s in fact “a serious business person, is what I’ve learned” when it comes to working with her. Added Hilfiger: “She knows exactly what she wants, what she doesn’t want. There’s no gray area. She’s very clear.” Hilfiger, too, was clear when asked how he survives Coachella.
“Stay away from it!”
