Friday Night Dinner has found its parents.
NBC’s single-camera comedy, adapted from a U.K. format by Emmy winner Greg Daniels, has cast fellow Emmy winners Tony Shalhoub and Allison Janney.
STORY: The Complete Guide to 2012 TV Pilots
The pilot, which is being directed by Ken Kwapis, centers on a quirky family that has dinner together every Friday night. Shalhoub and Janney will play the parts of Gene and Barbara.
For Shalhoub, this would mark a return to the series space after a defining run on USA’s Monk, which wrapped in 2009. More recently, he appeared in HBO’s Too Big to Fail and Lifetime’s anthology Five.
Janney, best known for her work in NBC’s long-running The West Wing, starred opposite Matthew Perry in last year’s short-lived comedy Mr. Sunshine.
The project, which hails from Universal Television, counts Howard Klein, Kwapis and Daniels as executive producers.
Shalhoub is repped by ICM, Janney by WME.
