Bold basic colors ruled the top 10 shoe picks at the SAG Awards. Black pumps continue to stage a strong showing, as showcased by JoBeth Williams’ classic Giorgio Armani kittens to Rosamund Pike’s dramatic Dior heels. The black stiletto cross-strap sandal, peep-toe, and T-strap also made appearances, with dyed-to-match, red satin and white glitter details rounding out our top picks for this awards show.
Maggie Gyllenhaal (seen above)
The actress stunned in a white deep-V Thakoon dress, which she paired with fierce black Tom Ford stiletto sandals featuring a hard metallic gold T-bar and dagger-shaped heel detail. The four-and-a-quarter-inch single-sole calfskin heels took the dress straight from goddess to warrior. Gyllenhaal loved them so much she lifted up the bottom of her dress during her interview with E!’s Ross Matthews and exclaimed, “Check out these shoes!”
JoBeth Williams, one of the producers of the SAG Awards show and president of the SAG Foundation, made an early appearance on the red carpet, emanating sheer elegance in a beaded gray silk Adrianna Papell gown and divine Giorgio Armani black satin D’orsay kitten heels. As one of the busiest women on the carpet, mobility chic is a key factor in her shoe choice “I wore them because they are sexy, yet comfortable — a rare combination,” she noted. Asked why the SAG Awards were particularly special for her, she responded: “As an actor, I can feel the warmth in the room of all our fellow actors celebrating our brilliant peers and their performances. And part of the proceeds from this night go to the SAG Foundation, a wonderful charity that helps our fellow actors in need. It’s truly a win-win night for actors!”
Rosamund Pike stunned in Dior Couture. Not afraid to embrace unusual shapes, she chose the Dior “Defile” black stiletto to complement her high-low dress and asymmetrical lob. The Defile features the signature Raf Simons curve, triangular heel and an angular cut in the toe box which makes for a severely chic and highly graphic silhouette.
Lupita Nyong’o sure loves her Sophia Webster, especially her Coco stilettos. The style has become a go-to for the actress and on Sunday evening, she paired them with a divine Elie Saab creation and bold black glasses for her presenting duties. The red satin pumps feature an extremely thin pin heel in metallic mirror gold with Webster’s whimsical iconic flamingo detail at the back. Said Webster of seeing the actress in one of her designs: “Lupita always does something unexpected on the red carpet and I’m flattered she has chosen to wear my shoes on so many occasions where she has wowed. She looked stunning last night in my Coco heel — the perfect pairing for her bold SAG look.”
Kaley Cuoco hit the carpet with red-on-red, donning a Romona Keveza column gown that showed off her toned arms and dyed-to-match red Aldo platform satin shoes. The five-inch ankle-strap stilettos featured a mitred platform, which is a bit more feminine than a straight chunky platform. Talk about doing a high-low fashion moment right.
High marks for Emma Stone’s SAG Awards ensemble as she stood out in a Dior tuxedo gown and Christian Louboutin Gardnera black satin peep-toe ankle-strap stilettos. The almost five-inch heels offered a playful counterpoint to her menswear-inspired frock. And we were into it.
Rashida Jones stepped out in a black-and-white Emanuel Ungaro gown trimmed in sky blue from the spring 2015 collection and Stuart Weitzman “Bebare” platform ankle-strap stilettos in black suede. These five-and-a-quarter-inch heels prove the ankle strap platform is always an awards go-to for height, stability and dare we say, comfort, with the one-and-quarter-inch platform. Style and comfort? We like the sound of that.
Paula Patton arrived in an intricately beaded white-and-gold metallic Aiisha Ramadan gown and paired it with white glitter Jerome C. Rousseau “Aizza” pumps. The five-inch pumps feature Rousseau’s unique ankle scallop detailing at the back of the shoe and a squared-off toebox. With the ensemble’s intricate detailing, the shoe’s textured glitter brought a beautiful contrapposto to the overall outfit. “Paula looks radiant tonight. I love her gown and that she’s wearing my Aizza pumps — they’re a signature style in my collection and she makes me proud tonight,” raved Rousseau.
Amy Ryan was one of the few who brought a bright punch of color to the carpet, wearing a bright pink Honor crop top and skirt. Embracing red carpet newcomers Bionda Castana on her feet, she went with custom cream-colored pointy-toe four-inch stiletto mules with a bow that were seen in Honor’s spring 2015 runway show. Ryan’s stylist, Orlee Winer, shared: “We loved the ladylike shoe with the bold Honor dress; [it] was the perfect complement and contrast.”
Why is Felicity Jones just so consistently adorbs? We don’t know how she does it either but last night’s pale pink Balenciaga gown was gasp-inducing perfection on her. On her feet she went with sky-high Jimmy Choo “Fairy” stilettos in dyed-to-match palest pink. Standing at six and a half inches high with a two-inch platform and ruched satin ankle detailing, these stunners took her outfit to a whole new level, literally.
