First Look Media’s Topic Studios and The Intercept have set a slate of new projects, including features and series, based on the reporting from the investigative news site.
The slate includes crime series Merchant of Doubt, which is based on an article written by Trevor Aaronson and Murtaza Hussain about an informant pinned between federal agencies.
Also in the works is the international drama Inside Menwith Hill, based on an explosive report by Ryan Gallagher about a clandestine NSA base in the U.K., as well as the drama series Crisis Games Society, inspired by another Gallagher story about a university student prosecuted on terrorism charges for merely downloading a book.
The feature film America Reloaded is also being developed and is based on Ryan Devereaux and Aaronson’s article that tells the stranger-than-fiction story about the FBI’s fake documentary on the Bundy family.
Topic is currently in theaters with Debra Granik’s Sundance standout Leave No Trace, and is in development on On the Other Side, starring Carey Mulligan, and a feature-length adaptation of Kyle Marvin and Michael Covino’s comedic short The Climb.
