OddLot Entertainment’s Gigi Pritzker, Voltage Pictures’ Nicolas Chartier and writer-producer Bill Hader will speak at the Toronto Film Festival’s industry conferences in September, organizers said on Tuesday.
They will join an industry lineup that includes Protagonist Pictures’ Mike Goodridge, John Fithian of the National Association of Theater owners, Amy director Asif Kapadia and Chinese director Jia Zhangke, who will delivering a master class as part of the Asian Film Summit on September 15.
The announcements came as Toronto locked in the dates for the September 11-17 industry conferences, to include Pritzker and Chartier in informal conversations about new trends in indie film, from financing and co-productions to marketing and distribution. Toronto will introduce a new industry conference program, Upfront, billed as “no-holds barred” conversations with industry leaders.
The returning Doc Conference on Sept. 16 will feature Hader talking about his new series Documentary Now, and Canadian director Avi Lewis and wife and activist Naomi Klein on building documentary audiences from the ground up. The early industry conference announcements were made by former Screen Australia and NZ Film marketing head Kathleen Drumm, who recently joined the Toronto festival as industry office director.
Toronto’s invitation-only industry conference will feature, in all, around 200 speakers, with additional talent lineup announcements to follow in the coming weeks.
