So goes the poignant lyric from one of the best-loved songs of On the Town, the acclaimed Broadway revival of which will close on Sept. 6 after a yearlong run.
Lead producers Howard and Janet Kagan announced on Thursday that the 1944 musical by the deluxe team of composer Leonard Bernstein and book writer/lyricists Betty Comden and Adolph Green will wrap following 28 previews and 368 regular performances, making it the longest-running Broadway production since the show’s premiere.

Directed by John Rando, the musical began previews at the Lyric Theatre on Sept. 20, 2014, and officially opened to ecstatic reviews on Oct. 16. The production made the 2014 10-best lists of a number of major publications, including The Hollywood Reporter.

Box office has been steady throughout the run, grossing a respectable $27.7 million to date. However, with 1,874 seats, the Lyric proved too large a venue for the production to fill, playing to houses in the 50 to 60 percent capacity range in recent weeks.
Prior to its closing, the production will welcome American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland, making her Broadway debut in the role of Ivy Smith for a special 12-performance engagement, Aug. 25 through Sept. 6.
A national tour has been announced for the 2016-17 theater season, with lead actor Yazbeck set to reprise his role in select cities.
