New video game Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark marks a first for the series based on Hasbro’s long-running toy franchise in that it’s not only a sequel to 2012’s Transformers: Fall of Cybertron but also a crossover with this summer’s Transformers: Age of Extinction movie.
“It takes on an alliance with the movie for the first time, and it [takes place] on Earth… and [Transformers home planet] Cybertron,” explained Peter Cullen, who’s served as the voice of Autobot leader Optimus Prime for the last three decades, in a new video promoting the upcoming release of the game. “You will actually go from that Cybertronian atmosphere to life on Earth.”

Developed by Edge of Reality for Activision, the game will offer both single player and multiplayer modes and will allow players to work with the heroic Autobots or evil Decepticons as they see fit, with both sides fighting for control of an object called “the dark spark,” which is powerful enough to cross between dimensions — enabling the crossover between Transformers continuities in the game.
Characters in the game include Optimus Prime, Megatron and newcomers to the movie series, Grimlock and Drift. “The imagination, the concepts, the artistry — I think fans are really going to enjoy [the game],” Cullen promises in the video, which you can see below.
Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be released for Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Wii U on June 24. Transformers: Age of Extinction will be released in theaters June 27.
