Though he seems happy with how Transformers: Dark of the Moon turned out compared to 2009’s Revenge of the Fallen, Shia LaBeouf is not planning to appear in any more Transformers movies as Sam Witwicky, the high school kid turned college student turned job seeker.
He told MTV News, “I just don’t think right now there’s anywhere to take Sam.”

What LaBeouf would like to do is work with Transformers director Michael Bay on another project, “I was seventeen when I met Michael, and I’m sort of Michael Bay-raised. I’ve learned a great deal from Michael, as a person, as an actor, as a person on set. And it’s not that I don’t enjoy working with Michael. I love working with Michael. I would do any movie Michael wants to do.”
Grateful for a career that has included roles in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Holes, I, Robot and a Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, La Beouf says his success has less to do with planning than falling into the right project, “If you’d asked me fifteen years ago if I would be here, I would’ve said, ‘No way.’ I don’t have a grand plan. There’s not this grand scheme. I just fall into movies. I’m blessed in that regard. The movies I’ve been involved in, it’s never been plotted and planned and picked.”

LaBeouf’s track record is, in fact, one of the more successful in Hollywood. Last October, Forbes magazine declared that the actor earned more “bang for the buck” than anyone else in town. It was the second year in the row he had been given that designation, and Forbes calculated that for every $1 LaBeouf was paid, the movie in which he appeared earned $81 in profit.
That figure includes returns for Revenge of the Fallen, which LaBeouf told MTV was not his best effort compared to Dark of the Moon, “Coming out of the 2nd movie where we had our recaps, there were good things, but there were more bad things. This is our first time we have a fully script with a strong through line and the best plot that Sam ever had. It’s simple in the place you want to be.”
Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens nationwide Wednesday.
