Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin Divests Stake in RatPac-Dune Entertainment

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has sold his stake in RatPac-Dune Entertainment, the prolific film financing firm with ties to the Lego Movie and Godzilla franchises, the upcoming Christopher Nolan film Dunkirk and some recent Mad Max and Batman movies.

Bloomberg on Tuesday first reported that Mnuchin sold his share of RatPac-Dune without disclosing a sale price or buyer. Mnuchin promised he’d sell his stake in the firm, which he co-owned with filmmaker Brett Ratner and billionaire Len Blavatnik, within 120 days of his Feb. 13 confirmation as treasury secretary under President Donald Trump.

RatPac-Dune was formed when RatPac Entertainment partnered with Dune Entertainment in 2013, and it has helped to finance a slew of Warner Bros. films ever since — including Wonder Woman. Prior to the partnership, RatPac helped make Avatar, considered the biggest box-office smash of all time after raking in $2.8 billion worldwide.

Mnuchin had been running Dune Entertainment but the entity named his fiancee, actress and filmmaker Louise Linton, interim CEO when Mnuchin stepped down to become treasury secretary. Bloomberg reported Tuesday that Linton has now stepped down as well because she is set to wed Mnuchin this weekend.

Mnuchin’s ties to Hollywood had also included an investment in Relativity Media where he was nonexecutive co-chairman, though he left before the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection two years ago.

Mnuchin is a former Goldman Sachs partner who was the Trump campaign’s top financial executive before the president made him treasury secretary. Mnuchin’s film credits include Wonder Woman, The Accountant, Sully, Suicide Squad, American Sniper and many more, all as executive producer.
