A dating reality series project is in the works from the creator of TrumpSingles.com.
CEO David Goss confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that he’s teamed with indie production company Boxx Communications and its president and CEO Mark Walker to collaborate on a competitive reality dating series project with politics as its centerpiece. It’s still in the early development stage, and the show does not yet have a title or a network or cable partner.
Still, Goss said he’s excited to be able to take the concept of dating during a complicated political landscape to the next level after the success he’s had with the site. Launched in May 2016 by Goss, a Republican, TrumpSingles.com now has 37,500 active users, a dramatic increase from the 12,000 users the site had in early December, just weeks after Donald Trump’s surprising White House win. The site even employs a version of Trump’s campaign slogan with the tagline, “Making Dating Great Again.”
It’s expected that the series could focus on some of the site’s users, but Goss adds that they would likely open up the audition process to anyone who has experienced politically charged dating issues or problems. Says Walker: “We would love to create a show that can show different people’s positions and possibly bring them together.”
It’s already doing the same for its creators. Goss is a Republican, while Walker admits to THR that, although he’s not “terribly political in either direction,” he’s “not in the Trump camp.” Walker hails from Australia and has served as an executive producer of reality TV shows including Skid Row and The Jim Rose Twisted Tour, the latter of which aired on Travel Channel. Boxx is best known as an equipment production company with various reality shows in development.
“We are excited with the new development of making a show to showcase the polarity of the dating world with today’s divisiveness and see if people with opposing views can have a loving and meaningful relationship,” Goss adds.
It’s that political divide that inspired Goss in the first place. “I started Trumpsingles.com because of the divide in our country, and as this divide grows further every day, we want to see if we can help bring people back together.”
